What Got You Here Won’t Get You There

This post is part of my Write 31 Days Challenge series, based on results of the Online Christian Creative Survey.  Click here to see all posts in the series

The things that helped you get where you are now will not help you move past where you are now.  It will take new skills, fresh methods, and more commitment. Now that we’ve completed our look at the overall survey results, we’ll take a closer look at those who have achieved some a bit of success with their online presence …. more than 5000 page views per month, 5,000 email subscribers, earning at least $1,000 per month or have more than $5,000 per year to invest in their ministry or business.  That represents about 15% of our survey responders.  Our goal for these last few posts in the series is to see what we can learn from and about those who are a few steps ahead of most.

I mentioned in the post about the top struggles mentioned in the survey that the top struggles were the same no matter how I split and filtered the results.  That holds true for this top group.  Their top struggles are the same as everyone else.

  • Growing their income
  • Managing their time
  • Increasing their traffic
  • Building their email list.

How can that be?  How can they be out in front in these areas and still feel like they are struggling? Is it a prideful drive to always be more and better?  An empty heart that is never satisfied? Never enough?

I don’t think so.

I think these are smart women who have learned a lesson that my friend Melissa Taylor taught me a long time ago.

What got you here won’t get you there.

The things that helped you get where you are now will not help you move past where you are now.  It will take new skills, fresh methods, and more commitment.

That’s not striving.  It might feel like a struggle, but really, it’s learning.

So never stop learning or trying to improve.  That’s what it takes to get to the next level.

PRO TIP

To get to your next level, study people in front of you. Watch what they are doing, but don’t just imitate what you see.  Try to understand WHY they are doing it, then adapt that WHY to your situation to come up with your next growth strategy.
