Episode 26: Unmotivated? 3 Tips to Regain Your Focus

Unmotivated? 3 Tips to Regain Your Focus

I’ve heard from a lot of the Do a New Thing community that you are feeling unfocused and unmotivated in a season where we should be excited about ramping up for the end of the year. If you are struggling to get your mojo back after taking some time off this summer, here in Episode 26 of Just One Simple Thing, I have three tips to get you moving forward again.

If you are listening to this in real time, it’s early September, Labor Day week. For many of us, Labor Day marks the unofficial beginning of Fall.

This is when we start feeling a little extra tug towards our goals. Time is running out on the year, and if we can’t get all the way to the goal, at least we can make a good dent in it.

Even though your right brain may be telling you it’s time to go, your left brain just wants to trade your flip flops for some comfy slippers and a cup of your favorite pumpkin spice beverage. After a summer of fun and sun, you may feel unmotivated, unfocused, and unproductive. It’s a weird place where we crave the routine but dread the work.

For the next few episodes, I want to give you some tools to help you leap back into your rhythm. We’ll start with my three best tips for gaining some momentum. Then we’ll look at two characteristics you need …. Flexibility and Resilience …. to navigate whatever the rest of the year throws at you.

Here are those top three tips:

1. Double down on your planning.

2. Lean in to accountability.

3. Get some input into your plans.

Whether you are listening in real time in September or some other time of the year, we all go through ebbs and flows in our level of energy, focus and motivation. But we don’t have to stay stuck in the ebbs. We can take positive action to get ourselves in the flow and remain steadfast to see those dreams turn into reality.
