Your Leadership Identity in Christ

Have you ever given thought to your identity in Christ? It’s something I have heard a lot about over the years and wrestled with on a personal level.  Recently, my pastor spoke on our identity in Christ, and it really struck a chord with me. I wanted to share his approach with you in hopes that it might bring you clarity.  It was one of the most clear explanations I’ve ever heard.  You can listen to the sermon here.

Something about the way He framed it out made me think of it in terms of my identity in my business and ministry. I’d love to share my thoughts on it with you, but as he wrote the notes in first person, it sounds a litte self-centered in this context, so I’m changing all of the I’s to we’s …. because I am preaching to you and to myself! I’m putting Pastor Michael Luce’s words in italics.  Ready?

We are completely accepted!

Our performance does not make us acceptable; it is God’s love that chooses us.
We don’t have to wonder if we are good enough or smart enough or work hard enough.  He’s already chosen us to be on mission for Him and accepted us for the assignment.

We are extremely valued!

We are valuable because God owns us, created us, and paid a huge price for us.
God highly values the unique gifts and skills He has given us.  If He gave them to us, doesn’t it make sense that He knows the best ways to use them?

We are totally forgiven!

All our faults and failures have been taken care of, so that guilt and fear won’t hold us back.
If we’ve messed things up, gotten off on the wrong track, or taken our assignment lightly at times, it’s ok.  Confess and accept forgiveness.  We can make a fresh start with confidence.

We are fully capable!

We are able to receive the Holy Spirit who gives us power to be what we are in Christ.
Isn’t it nice to know we are not in this alone? God has given us a Guide to help us thoroughly embrace what He has called us to do.

Whew! That gets me fired up and ready to tackle another week!  How about you?

Tired from trying to share your God-inspired message while working your full time job?

Do you wonder if it’s worth it, or even possible, to build a ministry or business on the side?

I have good news for you. It is possible. It is worth it. You can do it.

That’s why I’m glad to share with you the four-part Honor System, to help you honor all the work God has given you to do. These are the hard-earned lessons I’ve taken away from chasing after my dreams and maintaining the career that supports my family.

  1. Our identity in Christ stabilizes our life. It creates a solid level on which to walk versus the pothole-filled trail deception gives. When I came to realize who I truly was in Christ–and this wasn’t until just a few years ago–it changed everything. Glad you’re out there encouraging others to consider Jesus and our identity in him, Christa. Have a beautiful day, friend.

  2. I have “always” struggled with my identity in Christ. I think the phrase “taking our assignment lightly” hit home. Confess, ask for forgiveness and get to the business Jesus has called me to. No excuses, no fear. He has equipped me for this assignment, at this time with everything I need. Thanks for sharing Christa!
