What I Learned at the EntreLeadership 1 Day Live Stream

You are either creating the wave, riding the wave, or being crushed by the wave of market disruption. ~ Dave RamseyI was blessed to recently attend the EntreLeadership  1-Day Live Stream event, hosted by Dave Ramsey.  In addition to hearing from Dave, we also heard from Chris Hogan (author of Everyday Millionaire), Bobby Gruenewald (founder of the team responsible for the YouVersion Bible app) and Scott Harrison (founder of charity: water).  The focus of the event was Market Disruption, based on the principle that change is coming, you can’t ignore it, so make it an opportunity for growth.

Here are some of my favorite quotes and takeaways:

Dave Ramsey – How to Become A Market Disrupter

“You are either creating the wave, riding the wave, or being crushed by the wave of market disruption.”

“Pull your head out of your Ops.”  The leader of an organization needs to be looking up and out what’s happening and setting aside time for strategic thought.

Where there is no vision, the people perish. Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)

“This is not a verse about vision … it’s a verse about perishing.”

“’We’ve always done it that way’ is never a reason to keep doing something.  Determine if it is a process that needs to die or a principle that needs to stay.”

“Gatekeepers get slaughtered by the marketplace.’

“The biggest problem with success is that it causes failure.

Decide what you want or where you want to be in 10 years.  Is the 10-years-from-now you going to be mad at the now you because you sat on a dream?  What has to be true about you that isn’t so you can be what you want to be in 10 years.  It’s an incremental process of change. Change a little now to grow towards that in 10 years.

Chris Hogan – Leadership Disrupted

“A good leader can help someone get better at their job, but a great leader can help someone get better at their life.”

“The person at the top makes it all about the people below them.”

“The leader with the most connections wins.”

“Do the good thing because it is good to do good.”

“It’s impossible to disrupt something if you don’t have trust; and it’s hard for teammates to trust what they don’t understand.”

Bobby Gruenewald – Changing the Way the World Reads the Bible

“Improve just 1% today.  Then do it again tomorrow.  Trying to make huge improvements quickly leads to disappointment and frustration.”

“One of the best things we can do as leaders is create a culture that is conditioned for change.”

“Move fast and follow momentum.  Though every idea isn’t a winner, moving slowly will kill even the best of ideas.”

“Continue to be leading even when you are in the lead.  Those are two different things.”

Scott Harrison – Leading a Movement of Generosity

“The greatest brands in the world never use shame or guilt to manipulate buyers or givers.”

“Know when to kill the thing that put you on the map.”

“Reject the apathy that comes with a task so huge.”

Do not be afraid of work that has no end.  Avot de Rabbi Natan

Dave Ramsey – The Power of Intentionality

“Goals not fed and fueled by dreams do not have any power.”

“Goals are dreams that put work clothes on.”

“Goals must be on purpose and on paper.”

Write the vision and make it plain.  Habakkuk 2:2 (KJV)
