There are those who say you shouldn’t earn an income from your Christian blog or ministry. You shouldn’t earn money from sharing the gospel.
There are others who say you can’t earn an income from your Christian blog or ministry. Christians are too frugal, they get plenty of free content and services from their church and are prefer to support local ministries.
Both ends of that spectrum are fear-based thinking that leaves God out of the equation.
63% of online Christian creatives have chosen not to monetize their blog or website. 7% are earning $500 or more per month. 3% are earning over $1000 per month and Christians are among those earning six-figure annual incomes online.
And all of that is okay. It’s okay to use your blog as a ministry that you fund yourself. It’s okay to earn a small income that covers the expenses related to blogging. And it’s okay to earn an income that supports you and your family.
There is no one right answer. Each person has to pray through this one on her own and then trust God’s direction for message He’s entrusted to her.
PRO TIP
Read more of my thoughts on this topic here, in my reflections on the 2016 survey. And spend time in prayer, being honest about your motivations, needs and convictions.
If you choose to monetize, look for resources that specifically address the struggle Christians have with this topic.
