As I said in my post earlier this week, on Thursdays, I’ll share what I am learning through tools, resources and other information.  I’m learning something every day about growing my business and blog, so maybe some of what I am learning will be helpful to you as well. These posts may contain affiliate links, which means I earn a little bit to keep my blog going if you make a purchase through that link.  I promise that I will only share about tools that I am actually using and will share the pros and the cons.

First up in the Lessons Learned series is the Blog Success Planner from Inspired Bloggers University.   This planner has seriously helped me keep all the biz bits and pieces organized and I love it!!

What I Love About the Blog Success Planner:

The 2017 Blog Success Planner is here! With editable PDF pages, a printed option and brand new modules, it has everything you need to plan your blog's success! It has everything.  And I mean everything.  I’m not just using it for my blog, but for my entire business.  It has goal setting sheets, several calendars, marketing info, resources ….  I could go on.  But honestly, if it’s not covered somewhere in these nearly 200 pages, I probably don’t need to be thinking about it.

It will grow with me.  There are several sections I’m just not ready to start using yet.  (I may NEVER be ready for the Speaking or Media sections!)  But when I’m ready, the planner has what I need.  And it gave me some important things to watch out for so I don’t get surprised.  In addition to the blank pages to fill out, there are resources and instructions included in each section, so it is as much educational as it is organizational.

Projects!  You know I love me a good project and have several in the works. The product/project planning pages will guide me through all the steps from idea to promotion to launch.  Perfect.

Looking back.  The calendars and planning pages will help me look forward, but some unique features of this planner are sections to help me look back and learn.  I love this part.  While Philippians 3:13-14 encourages us forget our mistakes and move forward, Deuteronomy 4:9 reminds us to learn from the past. So I think the Biblical instruction is clear …. look back and learn from the past, then use your learnings to fuel you into the future.  The annual review and launch review pages will help me do just that.

How I Am Using the Blog Success Planner

I’m conflicted.  I love a good paper planner as much as the next girl.  I also love the convenience of carrying all my “stuff” wherever I happen to be.  A big fat planner in a binder is just not the easiest thing to lug around. And with most digital planners, I feel like I’m only seeing a part of the big picture.

So after a little fiddling, I figured out how to pair the planner with a PDF editor and use it electronically. It has the view of a paper planner, but the convenience of being able to access it where ever I am.  Watch this video to see how it works:

Note:  Remember that you can only modify the planner pages digitally for your own personal use.  Never modify someone else’s PDF and then distribute the modified version.  That’s illegal … and just plain rude.

UPDATE:  The 2017 version of the Blog Success Planner comes with a editable PDF pages!  How cool is that!!!

Other Great Features of the Blog Success Planner

Color Choices – The colorful version does hog a lot of ink, or cost a bit to have it printed at your local office supply store.  But it is also available in a Bare version that is good for printing in black and white.

Complete Package – If you choose to print physical pages, you’ll have all the pages you need for a nice binder … front and back covers, spine covers, dividers, and stickers.

Instructions – The planner comes with a series of video instructions to help you get the most out of the sections.

What I’ve Learned Using the Blog Success Planner

Making the money, time and energy investment in my planner has helped me stay committed to and focused on the things I really need to do.  It is so easy to put off things you don’t want to do or don’t know how to do. But my planner keeps those things in front of me AND provides a lot of resources and instructions to get it done.

Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. Proverbs 16:3

  1. First, I love the planner you shared Christa! I am just getting started with creating a blog so your blog post came at the best time possible. I think that’s a God nudge! Second, I would never have thought to use the planner digitally but it makes sense to utilize technology in that manner. I just enjoy using a pen and paper version so much but I can use that to keep my family and personal events in. This will help me focus just on my blog and writing. I so appreciate the time you spend to help others find success in the dreams and goals they have. You do make a difference – especially to me!
