Address the Cause, Not the Symptoms

My favorite part of analyzing the survey results is seeing the connections between different questions.  Focus and try to follow me here.  We are going down a rabbit trail.

A few days ago, we learned that creating an income was in the top four struggles listed in the survey responses.  37% of the survey responders are trying to earn an income by selling products, courses or services.

Now here comes the interesting part.

Of those trying to earn an income, over half are making less than $100 per month.

And of those making less than $100 per month, earning an income is THIRD on their list of struggles, behind increasing traffic and growing their email list.

Hmmm.

If I were trying to earn an income but only making less than $100/month, I think earning an income would be my top struggle.  Right?

Wrong.

These people have realized something that isn’t obvious to most people.

Not making enough income is the SYMPTOM of a struggle, not the cause.

In order to make an income online, particularly as a Christian blogger or to support a Christian ministry, you need a passionate following who feels like you are meeting a need they care about.

That means more eyeballs on your content … traffic and email list.  All the affiliate links and fancy ebooks in the world will not generate income if there is no one looking at them.

PRO TIP

No matter what you are struggling with, make sure your action plan is addressing the cause, not only the symptom.  Invest your time and money on the cause and the symptoms will take care of themselves.
